Arunachal Pradesh doctor, 2 medical students killed after car rams parked truck

Guwahati: In a tragic accident, a doctor from Arunachal Pradesh and three others were killed after the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a parked container truck at Lalmati under the jurisdiction of Khetri Police Station on Friday morning.
Among the deceased were two young medical students who were pursuing their medical degrees from Tripura. According to reports, the vehicle was allegedly travelling at a speed of 100 kmph at the time of the collision.
Police identified the deceased as a 55-year-old doctor from Upper Siang district with a 52-year-old wife, who was employed with Arunachal Pradesh’s Food and Civil Supplies Department. They were also accompanied by their 22-year-old son and his friend, who was from West Kameng. Both of them were medical students at a private college in Tripura, reports the Times of India.
According to Joint Commissioner of Police Ankur Jain, the accident occurred at around 11 a.m. The vehicle, bearing an Arunachal Pradesh registration number and driven by the doctor, was reportedly travelling at high speed when it struck the stationary container truck.
“According to information, they started their journey at 6 am from Itanagar and booked a room at Arunachal Bhawan in Rupnagar. Examination of the site indicated that the doctor, who was driving the car, did not apply the brakes before impact. Eyewitnesses suggest the vehicle was travelling at over 100 kmph,” Jain said.
While talking about the probable cause behind the accident, he stated that the driver might have been too exhausted after driving for several hours and possibly fallen asleep at the wheel. The driver did not seem to exercise any evasive action. The vehicle drifted sideways before ramming into the truck, Jain added. An official inquiry was launched to establish the precise cause and chain of events that resulted in the collision, reports the daily.
Khetri PS officer-in-charge Tanmoy Nath stated, “They were travelling from Arunachal Pradesh to Guwahati to attend a family matter when their vehicle met with an accident. The bodies have been taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem examination.”
A similar incident happened a few months ago when a doctor couple was killed when their car collided with a parked container truck on the highway, near a toll plaza under the Sarai police station area of Vaishali district.
