Ranchi: In an unfortunate incident, a 34-year-old postgraduate medico from the department of Surgery at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his house in Jharkhand's Ranchi district.

The police in their preliminary investigation revealed that they found no signs of suicide or murder. His family members informed the police that he was suffering from high blood pressure and was under medication.

"In that case, he might have died due to an overdose of medicines," an officer told PTI. However, the exact cause of his death could be ascertained only after the release of the autopsy report.

The deceased was a resident of Kanthal More in the Daladali outpost area. As per a latest TOI media report, he was the son of the health department’s former director.

The incident took place on Sunday when his driver came to wake him for duty, and his door was locked from the inside. When he did not respond, the driver reportedly brought duplicate keys from his family, who live in another locality in the city, to open the door.

Following this, the police were informed about the incident and the doctor was taken to a local hospital first and then to RIMS, where the doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.

The deceased was a first-year Master of Surgery (MS Surgery) student at RIMS and had taken admission in December 2025, a spokesperson of the hospital said.

Officer in charge of Nagri police station, Praveen Kumar, stated, "Police recovered the body and sent it to Rims for post-mortem examination. The exact cause of death would be ascertained only after the report comes."

Commenting on this, RIMS junior doctors’ association president Dr Jitendra Kumar told TOI, "It is sad that two talented students have passed away in 14 days. On May 16, an MBBS second-year student was found hanging in his room in a Rims hostel."
