New Delhi: Facing backlash from the medical fraternity across the country the union health minister, Dr Harsh Vardhan has written to Baba Ramdev to withdraw his controversial comments in public where he was seen calling the practice of allopathy stupid.

The controversial comments are viral on social media in the form of a video, where the Baba is seen claiming, "Allopathy ek aisi stupid and diwaliya science hai." He allegedly went on to say that medicines including remdesivir and fabiflu, approved by the Drugs Controller General of India, failed to treat Covid patients in India.

The comments immediately drew backlash from the entire medical fraternity went in arms against Yoga Guru Ramdev, with Indian Medical Association (IMA) threatened to move court demanding the Union Health Minister either accept the accusation and dissolve modern medical facility or prosecute him and book him under the Epidemic Diseases Act. The Delhi Medical Association went ahead and filed a police complaint against the Yoga Guru

Various medical associations and doctors' body flayed him for belittling the sacrifice of more than 1200 doctors who have laid their lives (since the onset of COVID-19), taking Twitter by storm with hashtag #ArrestQuackRamdev trending with more than 19000 tweets.

Criticizing the alleged 'vitriolic' comments against modern medicine made by Ramdev, IMA has asked the Health Ministry not to be a mute spectator of his humiliating comments which will gradually diminish the faith of people on modern medicines.

IMA also went ahead to state if the Health Ministry is not taking suo-moto action, then it will be forced to resort to democratic means of struggle to propagate the truth to the common man and knock on the doors of the judiciary to get due justice.

Not just this, the Union health minister also was caught in the fire of the medical fraternity, with doctors questioning the minister and the government over Baba's comments.

The Union Minister in response has now written a letter to yoga guru Ramdev asking him to retract his objectionable statements pointing out that it has hurt the country's sentiments

The letter stated India's incredible healthcare workers are fighting against Covid-19 day in and day out for their countrymen. He said that Ramdev's statements have hurt the country's sentiments by disrespecting India's 'Corona warriors'.

Meanwhile, on behalf of Baba Ramdev, the Patanjali Yogpeeth (Trust) on Saturday (May 22, 2021) said that 'Swami jee has no ill-will against modern science'. The statement clarified that the Baba was reading out a whatsapp forwarded message.

"It is necessary to mention that the event was a private event and Swami jee was reading out a forwarded WhatsApp message received by him and various other members who were participating in the event," Patanjali Yogpeeth (Trust) said.

"Also, Swami jee has no ill-will against the modem science and good practitioners of modern medicine. What is being attributed against him is false and nugatory," the added.

However, in his letter to the Baba, the Health Minister was seen adding that clarification is not enough and it is important that he withdraws his comments
