Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer felicitated Major Kavitha Vasupalli, a medical officer in the Indian Army, for her exceptional achievement as the only woman to complete a 1,040 km rafting expedition on the Brahmaputra River.

Hailing from rural Srikakulam, Major Kavitha Vasupalli, of the Indian Army Medical Corps, now holds a World Book of Records (London) entry. She is a soldier with steel in her spine and the only woman to ride the wrath of the Brahmaputra into the record books. Born to a railway clerk and a homemaker, she joined the Army in 2021 after earning her MBBS from Srikakulam Medical College. Today, she serves at MH Wellington. But her story goes far beyond stethoscopes and field kits.

The Heroes in Uniform posted on social media stating that in 2025, she became the sole woman in a 10-member Army team to complete a 1,040-km rafting expedition on the mighty Brahmaputra. For 28 days, she battled Grade 4+ rapids, freezing waters, and sheer exhaustion. Her calm, courage, and clinical precision were vital. A feat that earned her a place in the World Book of Records.

Days later, on the slopes of Mount Gorichen (5,900 m) in the Eastern Himalayas, she saved a fellow climber’s life during a summit push, earning her the COAS Commendation Card for bravery under extreme conditions. On Republic Day 2025, she was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal—a recognition of her exceptional service and unmatched spirit.

“From river to ridge, from lifesaver to record-setter—Major Kavitha is reshaping what courage looks like. The Governor of Andhra Pradesh rightly called her “a role model.” But she’s more: proof that grit knows no geography, and heroism no gender. Her journey is still unfolding. With dreams of Everest and a passion for sports medicine, Major Kavitha is just getting started,” the post further claimed.
