Speaking to TNIE, the police said the doctor was arrested in a sexual harassment case in 2024 based on a complaint filed by a woman who was working at the hospital. He was traced to Tirupathi, from where he was arrested and brought to Chennai. The woman had also written to the National Commission for Women and the Chennai district collector about her ordeal. He was in jail for 15 days before he was released on bail.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that the Chief of Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing at the Madras Medical Mission was arrested following allegations from a woman who claimed that the doctor sexually abused and harassed her while at the hospital.

Sources said the incident had reportedly caused him mental stress, and he had been irregular at work following his release.

On Wednesday, he was reportedly alone at his residence when the incident occurred. Police from Valasaravakkam reached the spot after being alerted and sent the body to a government hospital for postmortem examination.

The doctor was a well-known figure in the field of cardiac electrophysiology with nearly three decades of experience. He had also participated as faculty in several national and international medical conferences, including those organised by the Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society (APHRS) and the Heart Rhythm Society (HRS).
