Bhubaneswar doctor duped of over Rs 1 crore in land fraud, accused arrested

Bhubaneswar: A man has been arrested in Bhubaneswar for allegedly cheating a female doctor of more than Rs 1 crore by promising to sell her land using forged documents and making false claims of ownership. Police said the accused allegedly executed multiple fraudulent agreements and sale deeds but failed to transfer either the land or its ownership to the doctor. 

The investigation is continuing, and the accused has been produced before a court. 

According to the police, the complainant was approached by the accused with an offer to sell a 3,000-square-foot plot in Pathargadia mouza under Chandaka police station limits. Believing the offer to be genuine, the doctor paid an advance amount. 

Investigators alleged that the accused later persuaded the doctor to transfer a much larger amount through multiple bank transactions. To make the deal appear legitimate, he allegedly arranged for three other individuals to execute sale deeds on his behalf. However, police found that the individuals were not the actual owners of the land, and neither possession of the property nor the Record of Rights (RoR) was transferred to the doctor's name. 

Police further alleged that the accused subsequently entered into another agreement, promising to sell an additional 6,000 square feet of land, and collected more advance payments. Despite receiving the money, he allegedly failed to complete the transaction. 

According to Pragativadi, during the investigation, police seized several agreements, sale deeds and bank records. The financial documents allegedly showed that large sums had been transferred to the bank accounts of the accused and his wife.

According to police, the accused allegedly admitted to the fraud during questioning. Investigators also found that he has a previous criminal case registered at Parjang Police Station in Dhenkanal district.

Police have advised the public to verify land ownership records and related property documents before making payments in real estate transactions. Further investigation into the case is underway.
