Doctor Removed
Shivamogga: Following the arrest of a person who allegedly impersonated an IAS officer, the District Surgeon of Chikkamagaluru has been removed from his post amid allegations of cheating and joining hands with the accused.
The authorities have appointed Dr Chandrashekhar Salimath, who was serving as District Surgeon-2, as the new District Surgeon. He took charge on Saturday.
The action comes after the surgeon was accused of being linked with the fraudster, along with complaints raised regarding poor maintenance and cleanliness at the district hospital.

Confirming the development, Dr M.R. Harish, Dean and Director of Chikkamagaluru Institute of Medical Sciences, told The Hindu, "Following the recent reports in the media on the fake IAS officer cheating the medical shop owner in the city, the district surgeon had been replaced. Besides that, there were complaints that he failed to maintain cleanliness in the hospital. Chikkamagaluru MLA H.D. Thammaiah had suggested the replacement for failing to maintain cleanliness in the hospital."
Meanwhile, Chikkamagaluru Deputy Commissioner N.M. Nagaraj has sought a detailed report on the matter from the dean of the medical institute.
The case came to light after a man posing as an IAS officer, claiming to be posted at Arogya Soudha in Bengaluru, visited Chikkamagaluru and interacted with officials. He allegedly collected money from a medical shop owner by promising a government contract to supply medicines.
Following the incident, protests were held in the district demanding an inquiry into the alleged role of the accused district surgeon. The impersonator has since been arrested by Bengaluru Police after a complaint was filed by the medical shop owner.
In response to the Commission's order, the Dean stated that he will gather information from concerned hospital officials and submit the report to the Deputy Commissioner, with a copy to the Department of Health and Family Welfare.
