Palghar: A protest was held in Vasai in Palghar district of Maharashtra on Saturday after a doctor couple and two others were allegedly assaulted by unidentified individuals.

According to PTI, the incident took place at around 10 pm on Friday when the doctor couple was on their way home after shutting their clinic, a police official said.

The assault took place near a wine shop, which residents said has become the hub of “anti-social elements” once night falls.

Those who took part in the protest included residents as well as medical practitioners, who questioned the police and the civic administration on the law and order situation and the rise in such incidents.

The protesters also wanted the wine shop to be shut.

A probe into the incident is underway, and residents have been assured of adequate police presence in the area, the official added.

One of the male doctors sustained serious injuries in the alleged assault.

The incident reportedly took place around 3:30 am when the group was returning from a washroom to the parking area. According to one of the women, the three men allegedly tried to pull her and another woman into their car before attacking a male doctor who intervened.
