Tamil Nadu Medical Council introduces free online facility for legal heirs to report doctors' death
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Medical Council (TNMC) has announced a zero-cost online application facility for the legal heirs of deceased Registered Medical Practitioners (RMPs) to formally notify the council of their demise.
In a public notice dated August 25, 2026, the council stated that the facility is available through its official website. The initiative is intended to streamline the process of updating the records of deceased doctors and ensure that the council’s database reflects their status accurately.

According to the notice issued by the Registrar, applicants must upload the deceased medical practitioner's undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) degree certificates, TNMC registration certificate, identity proof, and death certificate issued by the competent authority.
The identity proof may be an Aadhaar card, voter ID, driving licence or passport. Applicants must also provide the deceased practitioner's mobile number, email ID and TNMC registration number in the online application.
The person submitting the intimation must also provide their own details in the relevant sections of the online application. These include the applicant’s email ID, mobile number and relationship with the deceased medical practitioner.
Applicants are also required to upload a copy of the Legal Heir Certificate and the applicant’s Aadhaar Card to establish their identity and legal relationship with the deceased practitioner.
Upon receipt of the online application, the Tamil Nadu Medical Council will scrutinise the information and verify the uploaded documents. Once the application is found to be in order, the Council will update its database by watermarking the relevant record with the status “DECEASED.”
The notice emphasises that the online application is the prescribed channel for reporting such cases, and submissions through email or other dispatch methods will not be entertained.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that, through a recent notice, the Tamil Nadu Medical Council (TNMC) has informed Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) that uploading a scanned copy of the original Screening Pass Certificate is mandatory while applying for a Provisional Eligibility Certificate or Permanent Registration through the TNMC portal.
