Osmania Medical College junior doctors protest over infrastructure, working conditions
Hyderabad: Demanding the restoration of non-functional medical equipment and urgent improvements in hospital infrastructure, junior doctors staged a protest at Osmania General Hospital (OGH) in Hyderabad on 12 October, 2026, alleging that the deficiencies were affecting patient care and clinical training.
The Telangana Junior Doctors Association of Osmania Medical College (OMC JUDA) announced on Sunday that interns, undergraduate medical students, postgraduate residents, senior residents and representatives from all departments would participate in the protest.

As part of the agitation, the association has decided to suspend elective outpatient department (OPD) services and elective operation theatre (OT) procedures. However, emergency services and essential patient care will continue uninterrupted, the association stated.
According to Telangana Today, “Despite repeated representations and prolonged efforts to bring our concerns to the attention of authorities, several critical issues continue to affect departmental functioning and the quality of postgraduate training. Residents have waited for meaningful improvements for a long time, and the present situation demands urgent and time-bound action,” OMC JUDA said in a statement on Sunday.
N. Chandrakanth Reddy, president of the Osmania Medical College Junior Doctors Association (OMC JUDA), said several essential facilities and diagnostic machines at the hospital were either inadequate or had remained non-functional for months.
"Facilities ranging from ventilators to the catheterisation laboratory are deficient. Several diagnostic facilities and machines, including X-ray and endoscopy equipment, have not been working for months," he said.
The protest was held on the hospital premises from 9 am to 2 pm. The junior doctors demanded time-bound action to address infrastructure deficiencies and restore essential medical equipment to working condition.
Reddy said the association was prepared to intensify its agitation in the coming days if the authorities failed to respond to their demands
"A meeting had been held with Health Secretary Christina Z. Chongthu a week ago, but the association had not received any concrete assurance. We have been waiting for seven days after the meeting, but there has been no proper assurance. That is why we decided to protest," he added, reports the Hindu.
Reiterating its concerns, OMC JUDA said its members had spent years preparing for postgraduate medical positions while continuing to serve patients. The association urged the authorities to address their grievances and ensure adequate infrastructure, essential equipment and a supportive environment for medical education.
“We have worked for years to earn our residency positions and serve our patients. The purpose of medical education must not be reduced to completing duties without adequate learning opportunities, infrastructure, and essential departmental facilities. Our genuine concerns deserve serious consideration and concrete action,” the association said.
