Doctor couple injured after car crashes into guardrail on Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway

Gujarat: In a tragic incident, a doctor couple sustained serious injuries after their speeding car crashed into an iron guardrail on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway near Palghar, Maharashtra. The impact was so severe that an iron railing pierced through the vehicle, trapping both occupants inside. The woman doctor's condition is reported to be critical.  

According to an NDTV report, the accident occurred on Sunday while the couple was travelling from Mumbai towards Gujarat. According to police and eyewitnesses, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and crash into the highway safety barrier.   

A 10 to 15-foot-long section of the metal guardrail tore through the front of the car and emerged from the rear, leaving the vehicle extensively damaged. Residents and highway police rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation to pull the injured couple out of the wreckage.  

Both victims were initially taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later shifted to a private hospital in Mumbai for advanced medical care, where she remains in critical condition.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.  

The latest incident comes days after another fatal highway accident in Gujarat. A 27-year-old woman and her one-year-old son were killed after the car they were travelling in overturned, caught fire and exploded on the Ahmedabad-Bhavnagar Expressway near Dholera. The woman's husband and father-in-law sustained injuries after managing to escape from the vehicle before it was engulfed in flames.  

Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.
