Yavatmal: Unveiling the revenge angle, the police investigation has found out that the Yavatmal based doctor was shot for alleged medical negligence while treating one of the family members of the accused two years ago.

The relative of the five accused was treated by the deceased doctor after he had met a bike accident in 2019 and he ultimately died. Accusing the doctor of negligence, the family members of the patient had also threatened him back then and they had been looking for an opportunity to get back at the doctor, adds Indian Express.

The main accused who allegedly fired at the doctor and who is the elder brother of the deceased patient is still absconding.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a doctor attached to Umarkhed rural government hospital was shot dead at around 4.45 pm last Tuesday. While police had nabbed four persons for the crime, the main accused was on the run.

Addressing a Press Conference, Yavatmal Superintendent of Police Dilip Bhujbal-Patil had said that those five had conspired to kill the doctor after blaming his treatment for the death of their brother who had sustained injuries in an accident back in 2019. The accused had threatened to kill the doctor at that time as well, SP Patil had added.

As per the latest media report by Indian Express, even though several teams of Yavatmal police were formed to investigate the case, the job seemed difficult as there was no motive for anyone to kill the doctor.

Although the CCTV footage near the location where the doctor was murdered had captured a biker fleeing from the spot, the image was not of good quality. While commenting on the same, Yavatmal Superintendent of Police Dilip Bhujbal told the daily, "However, the biker was going at such a high speed that we could hardly get a good-quality image. He covered a distance of 20 km in 12 minutes, from Umerkhed to Dhanki. After Dhanki, we could not find out where he had fled to."

When the police team started searching the vehicles and houses around the crime scene, police got a lead. "Our team observed that two local residents would follow police vehicles every time they went out to conduct searches. We suspected something was amiss and detained the duo," said the Police.

He further informed the daily that after questioning, the Police team found that one of them had approached the police back in 2019 with an application concerning the death of his nephew. On further questioning, the person revealed that his nephew along with his brother and a relative, upon meeting a bike accident on May 4, 2019, had been taken to the local hospital. The deceased doctor was on-duty and had the charge of treatment at the facility.

Back then, the family had alleged that the patient had lost his life due to alleged medical negligence by the doctor. Following this, the family fought with the doctor and even allegedly threatened him with the consequences of his actions.

Since then, for the last two years, the family had been keeping an eye on the doctor and trying to get an opportunity for getting back at him, the Yavatmal SP told the daily. Even earlier this year, the family had been observing the movements of the doctor and finally they decided to kill him last Tuesday.

Investigation revealed that the elder brother of the deceased patient allegedly shot the doctor, fled the spot riding the bike at high speed, and reached Dhanki where four other accused were waiting for him in a blue getaway vehicle. The blue vehicle was noticed in the CCTV footage as well and police also traced the bike which the accused had used to run.

"We have arrested four persons in the case, who are currently in police custody till January 23. But Aifaz is still on the run and we should be able to arrest him," added the SP.

Meanwhile, confirming the revenge angle, a police officer linked to the investigation claimed that when the police team went for conducting search at the house of the main accused, a family member told the police that since last one year, they had been dealing with the burden of death of their family member and they also felt that there was a need to avenge the death.

However, the police are waiting to nab the main accused, who could help them get more clarity regarding the motive of murder and also on other details including the source from where the accused had procured the firearm etc.
