Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani: Doctor, Richest MP in Lok Sabha Elections 2024 joins Union Cabinet

New Delhi: Newly elected Member of the Parliament and political novice Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani has joined the Union Cabinet from Andhra Pradesh. Emerging as the wealthiest candidate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Pemmasani declared family assets exceeding Rs 5,700 crore.

The 48-year-old doctor won the election from Guntur as a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidate. Dr. Pemmasani is married to Dr. Sriratna Koneru and has two offspring.

Born on March 7th, 1976 in Burripalem village near Tenali town, Dr. Pemmasani hails from Burripalem of Tenali mandal, Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh. Although he studied in a Telugu medium government school i.e. Narasaraopet Municipal School till his SSC, he secured 27th rank among 60,000 students appearing in the EAMCET exam in 1993-1994.

Dr. Pemmasani attained his MBBS degree from Osmania Medical College. After that, he went to America to continue his further studies. He completed his post-graduation studies in MD internal medicine at Geisinger Medical Centre in Pennsylvania in the US.

He proved his brilliance by scoring the highest marks in the PG course and even in the competitions held for medical students during the time of PG training. Dr.Chandra Sekhar served as Professor and Physician at Sinai Hospital at Johns Hopkins University for five years. He completed his medical licensing exam in the United States, and at the time, he faced hardships in getting training and accommodation in the USA, reports UNI.

To mitigate such hardships for students like him, Dr.Chandra Sekhar has taken a historical accession to compile his training material into a book and make it available to all the student community who are hailing abroad to the US for Medical Licensing Examination(USMLE). This is his landmark service, offering the lowest price to such students and receiving accolades throughout the United States.

He started an online training platform, namely UWorld, for medical students attending medical licensing exams in the US. Through this, he earned fame and goodwill in the USA. Now, the platform provides training in other areas, such as nursing, pharmacy, finance, LAW, commerce, and accounting. Dr.Chandra Sekhar was awarded the “Entrepreneur of The Year Southwest Region” award in 2020.

He provides medical facilities for NRIs who do not have medical insurance through the Pemmasani Foundation in Dallas, United States. He has helped to accommodate a hundred borewells in Palnadu District of Andhra Pradesh since 2010, establishing Reverse Osmosis plants and overhead tanks and providing drinking water through tankers in Palnadu District to mitigate water scarcity.

Impressed by the services rendered to the public by Dr.Chandra Sekhar, Chandrababu Naidu invited him to join active politics.

Dr. Pemmasani won the Guntur seat with a huge margin of 3,44,695 votes, defeating his nearest rival Kilari Venkata Rosaish of the YSR Congress, Deccan Chronicle has reported. His father, Sambasiva Rao, from an agrarian family moved to Narasaraopet for hotel business and got involved in Telugu Desam Paty activities since its inception. 

As per the latest media report by Republic World, Dr. Pemmasani declared his family assets exceeding Rs 5,700 crore. Therefore, he emerged as the wealthiest candidate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and now the richest MP.
