Dr Jayadev Betkerur appointed as national president of Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologist

Mysore: Dr. Jayadev Betkerur, Professor, Department of Dermatology, JSS Medical College, Mysuru, has recently been appointed as the National President of the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologist (IADVL).

Dr. Kiran Godse has been serving as the National President of IADVL till Dr. Betkerur took the charge as the new president. He will be serving as the president-elect of the association till next year.

The announcement of the new national president of IADVL was made at the 49th Annual Conference of IADVL, E- DERMACON 21, held from Feb.5 to 7 at Bengaluru. Commenting on the occasion, Dr. Jayadev Betkerur requested all the members of IADVL to extend support in fulfilling the theme of the Association for the year 2021,  "IADVL for Community and Member Welfare."  
Dr. Jayadev Betkerur completed his MBBS from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum, and pursued his MD in Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy from Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute. He started his career as a lecturer in the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum. After that, he worked as an Assistant Professor in Dr. BR Ambedkar Medical College and as an associate professor in JSS Medical College, Mysore.
He worked as the Professor & HOD Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy Department for almost 18 years and now he is serving as a professor in the same institute. Presently he is continuing to work, more as a patron than as Professor. His Fields of interest include HIV AIDS, Medical Education, and Clinical Dermatology. Being a person keenly involved in the activities of the Indian Association of Dermatologists Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL), he has held various posts in the association namely Joint Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice President at the National level. Under his leadership as President of the IADVL KT branch, an Independent IADVL Karnataka branch came into existence, and currently he has been appointed as National President-Elect of IADVL.
In the International field, he has held the post of Secretary-General of the South Asian Regional Association of Dermatologists. Under his leadership and support from his colleagues, the Department has conducted many conferences and other academic events including the state level IADVL conference, DERMAZONE South in 2010, National Conference on STD- ASTICON 2013, and so on. His motto has been the welfare of his patients, his students, his colleagues, his Department, and his institution. 
The Honorary Secretary-General of the association is Dr. Feroz K of Kannur. IADVL is an association representing more than 13000 Skin specialists of India.
Speaking to Medical Dialogues, Dr. Jayadev said that the theme of the association for the year 2021 is " IADVL for Community and Member Welfare". " As part of this theme, IADVL focuses on Educating, Enlightening, and Emancipating the community about various skin related issues like an epidemic of Fungal infection, Abuse and misuse of Steroids, harmful effects of over the counter treatments, misconception of diseases like vitiligo, leprosy and seeking help from qualified dermatologists rather than unqualified people", informed the doctor. He further added that the member welfare measures include helping them in need like illnesses, accidents, and untimely death.
