Dr Prashant P Joshi appointed as new Executive Director of AIIMS Nagpur

Nagpur: In a significant achievement, Dr Prashant P Joshi has been appointed as the Executive Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Nagpur.

Dr Joshi has assumed the position of executive director of AIIMS Nagpur following the completion of Dr M Hanumantha Rao's tenure. In this regard, a formal announcement was made on February 3rd.

Previously, Dr Joshi served as the Professor and Head of the Department of Medicine, AIIMS, Nagpur and was also the Officer on Special Duty (OSD). He is also an ex-professor and Head of Medicine at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH).

Speaking to The Hitavada, Dr Joshi said, “I express gratitude towards the authorities for selecting me. I shall not let anybody down and work to make healthcare services at AIIMS as patient-friendly. AIIMS, Nagpur has a good team with whom I have worked. All people at AIIMS Nagpur have great potential and with their cooperation, I shall try to make AIIMS, Nagpur, the best one in the country.”

Hailing from Nagpur, Dr Joshi completed his MBBS, MD (General Medicine) from Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and his MSc (Clinical Epidemiology, UNC, Australia) in 1995. 

He was nominated as a consultant by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India for developing the Program Implementation Plan for the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program. He also served as the temporary advisor to WHO on Non-communicable Disease surveillance and Trypanosomiasis. 

He was given the responsibility of Nodal Clinical Expert in the management of COVID-19 for Maharashtra by the Government of India and was also a Member of the COVID Task Force.

Dr Joshi is the Recipient of the Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship for Training in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He did 172 Research Publications in top, prestigious, high-impact factor Journals like JAMA, NEJM, BMJ, Lancet, WHO bulletin, JACC, Am J of Trop Med, etc

He had worked as the president of the Academy of Medical Sciences (2006-07) and the president of the Diabetic Association of India, Nagpur Branch, 2017-18.

He won the best paper award in APICON 2002, 2000,1996 and his research Papers were presented in numerous International Conferences.
