Greater Noida: A nurse at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, has been dismissed from service and booked along with two family members for allegedly assaulting a resident doctor following a heated argument over patient discharge paperwork.

According to police, the dispute began on October 6 with a disagreement between the nurse and the resident doctor over a patient's discharge summary. The hospital administration intervened after the argument, and the two initially reached an understanding. The matter allegedly escalated a few days later when the nurse's husband and brother-in-law confronted the doctor.

As per the complaint, the alleged assault took place near OPD 10 on the hospital premises around 2.15 pm on October 10. The resident doctor claimed that the nurse approached him with two or three other people while he was heading towards another outpatient department and that they assaulted him, HT reported.

The complainant alleged that he was struck on the head and face, causing him to fall unconscious. He also claimed that he had been followed and intimidated for three days before the incident. Police said the doctor sustained minor injuries and was stable, adding that further action would depend on the findings of his medical examination.

The nurse's family, however, has disputed the allegations. Her husband claimed that the doctor had behaved disrespectfully towards his wife during the earlier disagreement over discharge documents. He said the family had approached the hospital administration on October 6 but received no response.

Explaining the events of October 10, the husband informed Hindustan Times, “On October 10, my brother and I were dropping her at the hospital when he again disrespected my wife and pushed me, after which we responded ”.

The hospital administration has confirmed that the nurse, who had worked at GIMS for five years, was dismissed following the incident. The institute's director described the matter as an ongoing dispute between the nurse and the resident doctor over patient care and expressed hope that legal action would follow.

The doctor initially submitted a complaint to the hospital administration before approaching the police. A case has since been registered under Sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace) and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
