Mumbai: The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) has invited suggestions, reform measures and innovative ideas from major medical associations across the state to improve its functioning, with a focus on improving the registration and renewal process, online services, and grievance redressal.

In a letter issued on October 8, 2026 (No. MMC/Suggestion/2026/3568), following the constitution of the Council's new body, the Hon'ble President of MMC, Dr. Sanjay Kadam, has directed that views be sought from nine professional organizations.

The letter has been addressed to the President/Secretary of Indian Medical Association (IMA) - Maharashtra State Branch, Maharashtra State Medical Teachers' Association (MSMTA), Maharashtra Association of Gazetted Medical Officers (MAGMO), Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD), ASMI, Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA), Association of Medical Consultants (AMC), IMA - Junior Doctors' Network (IMA-JDN) and All India Medical Students' Association (AIMSA) - Foreign Medical Students' Wing.

According to the letter, the Council recognises the experience and insight of professional associations representing medical practitioners, teachers, government medical officers, consultants, resident doctors and medical students. This is a positive step towards a transparent, efficient and doctor-friendly MMC.

The organizations have been requested to submit four points: constructive suggestions and reform measures related to the working of MMC, innovative ideas for improving the Council's services including registration, renewal, verification, online services and grievance redressal, concerns and issues specific to their members, and measures for strengthening transparency, efficiency and professional standards. The Council stated that these inputs will help the newly constituted body to set priorities and take informed decisions in the interest of the medical profession and the public.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that the MMC constituted a governing body following the conclusion of elections for nine members in April. The panel backed by the IMA MMC group, headed by Dr. Santosh Kadam, secured eight of the nine seats. The elections were conducted after a gap of nearly 10 years, with 60 candidates in the fray for nine seats.
