Patna: In an unfortunate incident, a gynaecologist pursuing her postgraduate studies at Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH) in Gaya in Bihar was found dead in her hostel room on Sunday morning.

As per the Telegraph news report, the doctor was found hanging from the ceiling fan with a dupatta with one of her legs resting on a chair placed beneath the fan, while the other was dangling in the air.

The incident came to light when she did not join the morning duty at the hospital. Her colleagues suspicious of her absence, went to her room to check on her. However, the door was locked from inside. After repeated knocking, the doctor did not respond. Following this, they broke the door open and found her lifeless body hanging from the ceiling.

When the police were informed, they rushed to the spot and sent the body for postmortem. The reason behind her taking such an extreme step is unknown as the police found no suicide note during an investigation.

ANMMCH Principal Arjun Choudhary told The Telegraph, “We informed the police after coming to know about the incident in the morning. The police are probing it. We have informed the family of the deceased student about the sad occurrence."

The doctor's elder sister-in-law told TOI, “She was a strong woman. She can’t take such an extreme step. She had worked hard to reach her present position. Married in 2006, she had a 17-year-old son studying in Delhi and a five-year-old daughter.”

"Following information about the alleged suicide of a medical student, a police team, dog squad and forensic science laboratory team conducted an inspection at the spot. Footage from the CCTV cameras is also being reviewed to ascertain the real cause of death,” said city superintendent of police Prerana Kumar.

Meanwhile, Magadh Medical police station in-charge and trainee deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Anil Kumar told reporters, “We are investigating the case from all angles. It could be a suicide or a murder. We are not ruling out anything. We will wait for the post-mortem report."
