As per news agency ANI report, the incident occurred during the night hours when it heavily rained in the city. Around 11.30 pm, these men entered the clinic located under the jurisdiction of Rajendra Nagar police station in the city pretending to be ill, paid 450 rupees for a consultation and even took their medication before killing the doctor on the spot.
The police said that due to heavy rain, there was a power cut. As a result of this, footage of the accused was not captured in the CCTV cameras installed in the clinic.
However, during the investigation, the police recovered that a call from an unidentified number was made to the doctor. The caller had told him that he would come to the clinic for treatment of some ailment. The caller had also informed the Sahu that he had visited a few days ago for treatment and the results were good, as reported by Free Press Journal.
While detecting the owner of the cell phone, it was found that the mobile phone belonged to a labourer. Therefore, the police questioned the labourer who told them that some unidentified youth had stopped him and asked for his phone on the pretext of making an urgent phone call. To verify the source, the police team checked the CCTVs of the area where unidentified persons had taken the mobile phone of the labourer.
Vinod Kumar Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP, Indore Zone 1) told ANI, "On the night of December 27 at around 11:30 pm, three unknown people shot Dr Sunil Sahu (around 30 years old) dead at his clinic in the city. We have constituted several teams to investigate the matter and to nab the accused. The probe into the matter is underway and soon we will be able to reveal the facts related to the incident."
The officer further said, "According to the post-mortem report, the doctor was shot once in the chest. When the police questioned a compounder at the clinic, he told the police that three persons entered in the doctor's cabin and he heard the sound of a bullet firing. The compounder also saw them running away from the clinic."
Prima facie, it is revealed that the accused came for the treatment of a cold and cough. Nonetheless, according to police intelligence, it came to notice that the accused also performed a recce of the spot for around 3-4 hours before committing the crime. Therefore, it was a pre-planned murder.
48 hours after the incident, the police in their investigation found few leads which included the movement of a car near the spot. The police believed that the killers had reached there in a car and had parked the car some distance from the clinic in the Kundan Nagar area.
Additional DCP Aalok Kumar Sharma informed Free Press, "A team has been sent to Guna after some clues about the suspects. Preliminary investigation revealed that the Dr Sahu hails from Guna and has been staying in the city for two years. On the suspicion of his rivalry with someone in Guna, the police team was sent there."
Now, one team is analyzing the CCTV footage from the area, while another team of cyber experts is reviewing the call details from Sunil's mobile phone. A third team has been assigned to investigate the crime scene.
