Jalandhar: In a tragic incident, a female government doctor posted in Kapurthala was found dead at her residence in Jalandhar, Punjab, triggering allegations of domestic abuse, financial fraud, and an extramarital affair against her husband. The family has demanded his immediate arrest and a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

According to the news reports, police have registered a case under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on the complaint filed by her father and have launched an investigation.

The incident took place on Wednesday morning, when the 37-year-old doctor was found dead at her residence in Jalandhar, Punjab.

The victim's family alleged that she had been subjected to years of mental and physical harassment by her husband, who operates National Eye Care Hospital in Jalandhar. Her father claimed that several loans were taken in her name after their marriage in October 2018 without her full knowledge.

According to the complaint, one of the loans was allegedly used to purchase a Thar SUV, with the doctor reportedly paying the monthly instalments from her salary. The family further claimed that loans amounting to approximately Rs 45 lakh were taken in her name for vehicle and hospital-related expenses.

They also alleged that the doctor recently discovered an additional loan of nearly Rs 2.5 crore linked to her name while exploring the possibility of purchasing a house.

"She had gone to a bank while planning to buy a house and found that a loan of about Rs 2.5 crore existed in her name. The documents did not even carry her signature," her father alleged, claiming the revelation caused her immense mental distress. According to the family, the doctor had been living separately from her husband since July 2025 due to marital disputes and was considering filing for divorce, reports India Today

The victim's parents have also accused her husband of repeatedly assaulting their daughter during the course of the marriage. Her mother alleged that following arguments, he would often contact the family, admit to physically abusing the doctor, and later apologise. Her father further claimed that there had been a previous attempt to strangulate his daughter.

Adding to the allegations, the family accused her husband of maintaining an extramarital relationship with a woman employed at his hospital. They claimed the doctor became suspicious and reviewed hospital CCTV footage, which allegedly showed the two together. According to the family, the footage has been submitted to police as part of the ongoing investigation.

According to reports, a purported CCTV video allegedly showing the husband with a woman has also surfaced on social media. However, the authenticity of the footage has not been independently verified, and police have not issued any official statement regarding the clip.

Speaking to India Today, Jalandhar Police said they received information about the incident through the control room on Wednesday morning. Officers reached the house in Kewal Vihar and found the doors locked from the inside. Police said entry was gained after breaking a glass panel in the presence of local residents, following which the doctor’s body was found lying on the floor.

Station House Officer Sushil Kumar of Police Station Division No. 6 confirmed that a case has been registered and that legal procedures are underway. He also stated that the accused had not yet been questioned, as his mobile phone was switched off.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Satpal, who was present during the post-mortem proceedings, said the investigation was initiated based on the statement given by the victim's father.

The deceased doctor's family has said they are awaiting the post-mortem findings and are keeping an open mind regarding the exact circumstances of her death. "We do not know whether it was suicide or whether something else happened. The post-mortem report will reveal the truth," the doctor’s mother said.

The family has urged authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation into all allegations and take strict action against anyone found responsible. Police officials have stated that conclusions regarding the cause and circumstances of death will be drawn only after the forensic and post-mortem reports are received.
