The incident came to the fore after a woman from Yhangthala Ngarhuthedu seeking medical attention approached the doctor at her residence on Monday. Following this, the doctor advised her to undergo a hysterectomy (uterus removal surgery) and charged her Rs 500 as the first instalment of the operation fee on that day.
The doctor then asked her to visit the district hospital and the surgery was conducted successfully removing her uterus on the same day. Then the next day, the husband was instructed to visit the doctor's house. The doctor asked him to pay the remaining fee of Rs 5,000 for further related treatment.
As he had no money, he took a day to provide the money and left the doctor's house and went to the vigilance informing them that he would deliver the money the next day. As per the plan, the husband visited the doctor's house offering Rs 5,000. Considering his poor financial background, the doctor returned Rs 1,500 to him.
At the exact moment, the vigilance team nabbed the doctor counting notes in her room in front of the complainant and was arrested immediately. The team also inspected her house. The doctor was produced in the vigilance court the next day of her arrest.
