Maha doctor couple killed in car accident in Chandrapur

Chandrapur: In an unfortunate incident, a doctor couple was killed after their car was hit by a truck in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district, a police official said on Thursday.

The incident took place near Shebal village on Warora-Wani road on Wednesday afternoon, and the deceased has been identified as Dr Atul Gaurkar and Dr Ashwini Gaurkar, he said.

“The truck was coming from the opposite direction. Ashwini, who had recently joined District Hospital in Wani as per kin, died on the spot, while Atul succumbed to injuries when he was being rushed to a nearby hospital,” he said.

The deceased have been identified as Atul Gaurkar (34) and his wife Ashwini Gaurkar (31, Deendayal Society, Tukum, Chandrapur) resident. Dr  Atul Gaurkar was a medical officer at Arvi Upazila Hospital in Wardha district, while Dr Ashwini was a medical officer at Vani Upazila Hospital in Yavatmal district, reports the HT Marathi.

Dr. Atul was shifted to a rural hospital for treatment. However, he also died during treatment.

As per a recent media report in the Maharashtra Times, Dr. Ashwini Gaurkar was a gynecologist from Maregaon. The accident took place near Shembal village in Varora taluka.
