Bengaluru: A man posing as a doctor allegedly duped a 34-year-old Bengaluru software engineer of Rs 6.43 lakh in an elaborate scam that began on a matrimony app. The impersonator claimed to be an NRI orthopaedic doctor, and gradually turned a friendly online interaction into a financial trap.

According to the FIR registered on November 19, the victim was first contacted on October 24 by a man claiming to be an orthopaedic doctor working in the Netherlands. The scammer soon moved their conversations from the matrimony app to Telegram and phone calls.
