Bhopal: A Madhya Pradesh-based doctor who completed his postgraduation from Uttar Pradesh has approached the National Medical Commission (NMC) seeking clarification regarding the university affiliation of his medical college listed on the commission's official website.

In a representation to the NMC, the doctor alleged that the lack of clarification about his University on the National Medical Commission (NMC) website has deterred him from getting his additional qualification registered with the state medical council.

The doctor, who completed his MD in General Medicine from Dr KNS Memorial Institute of Medical Sciences, Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh, said the Madhya Pradesh Medical Council (MPMC) has not yet added his postgraduate qualification due to confusion over the university affiliation of the medical college mentioned on the NMC website.

According to him, the medical college, formerly known as Mayo Institute of Medical Sciences, has been affiliated with Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, Lucknow, since 2021. However, on the NMC website, the college is listed as Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Faizabad.

Due to this, he claimed that the Madhya Pradesh Medical Council has not granted additional registration for his MD degree. He is currently registered with the council with an MBBS registration.

In his representation, he alleged that the council has sent multiple letters regarding the clarification of the university name to NMC, which remain unanswered till date.

In a letter dated May 28, 2025, the council wrote to the NMC seeking clarification regarding the recognition of the MD (General Medicine) degree obtained by the doctor from Mayo Institute of Medical Sciences, Barabanki, under Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, Lucknow. The council noted that the recognition status of some courses on the NMC website was unclear, with some colleges listed as "permitted" or "approved" instead of "recognised."

Further, the council sought clarification from the apex regulatory body on whether all additional medical qualifications awarded by Mayo Institute of Medical Sciences, Barabanki, under Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, Lucknow, are recognised or not, Whether additional registration should be granted for the qualifications awarded by these colleges and on the NMC website, some colleges are shown only as "Approved" -  whether such colleges are recognized or not.

When no response was received, the council sent a reminder on June 10, 2025, again requesting clarification regarding the recognition status of the university. Subsequently, a second reminder was issued on July 5, 2025, requesting the same, but the council reportedly has not received any clarification from the NMC so far, as claimed by the doctor.

As a result, the doctor urged the commission to look into the matter and provide necessary guidance so that his additional qualification can be registered with the Madhya Pradesh Medical Council. He also requested the NMC to inform the state council regarding the correct university affiliation of the medical college.
