The racket came to light after an ICDS Supervisor, Saraswathi, lodged a complaint on October 27. Acting on the tip-off, police formed three special teams and traced the families involved in selling and buying the infants, along with the middlemen.

During the investigation, police seized Rs 20,000 in cash, seven mobile phones, and an adoption agreement from the accused, as per the TNIE news report.

In the first case, a man who works at a mutton shop decided to give away his newborn daughter after his wife gave birth to a girl. He contacted Dr ****, who allegedly arranged the illegal adoption to a couple for Rs 2.3 lakh.

After the police arrested the doctor, she confessed to mediating between the couple and the man after learning of his willingness to sell the baby.

In the second case, a couple who had recently returned from Odisha sold their baby boy for Rs 4.5 lakh to another couple through a broker named Orsu Sreenu. The exchange reportedly took place near Nalgonda hospital.

The police have rescued both babies and handed them over to Shishu Gruha for care. All seven accused have been sent to judicial custody, and police are on the lookout for the absconding parents.
