Patient assault case: Two junior resident doctors of UP Hospital suspended

Etawah: Following the shocking viral video of two junior resident doctors allegedly slapping and verbally abusing a patient admitted to a ward at UP Rural Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Saifai, the doctors have been suspended in connection with the case. 

Taking note of the video clips, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, who also holds the health portfolio, ordered a probe into the case earlier. He asked the vice-chancellor of the institute to conduct an inquiry so that action may be taken against the guilty.

Following the preliminary investigation by the university administration, two junior resident doctors were found guilty and subsequently suspended.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about the incident where the doctor reportedly argued with the patient and then suddenly slapped him. Following this, the hospital staff asked the doctor to contact their seniors regarding the case and not assault the patient in the ward.

In response to this, the doctor was heard saying to the hospital staff that he repeatedly warned the patient not to repeat his “mistakes”, and slapped him as the patient was not paying heed to his advice. 

The videos showing doctors hitting the patients in the ward were allegedly recorded by the patients on July 10 and 11 and the videos went viral on July 15, as reported by the news agency PTI.

The video clip, which went viral sparked outrage among netizens. The doctor who could be seen assaulting the patient in the video is the resident doctor of the hospital's Orthopaedic Department.

The videos purportedly showing the doctors hitting patients in the ward were allegedly recorded by another patient on July 10 and 11. The clips went viral on July 15.

“Junior Resident Doctors of the orthopaedics department were put under suspension after they were found guilty of hitting patients in the preliminary investigation conducted by the university administration,” Vice-Chancellor of the university Prabhat Kumar Singh.

Apart from this, one of the family members of the victim patient filed an FIR against the doctors of the university for hitting their kin said Safai Police Station’s Station House Officer, Mohammad Kamil. 

Following this, an investigation is underway into the case.
