Puducherry: 200 Intern Doctors boycott duty to condemn assault on colleague
Puducherry: Over 200 intern doctors at the government medical college hospital have boycotted work for three hours and demonstrated in front of the hospital.
The agitation was to condemn the assault on an intern doctor on the night of June 24 by some youths of Mettupalayam here.
Mettupalayam police registered a case and arrested the accused and lodged them in the central prison. Condemning the incident and demanding security for themselves, the intern doctors resorted to the agitation.
Outpatient service of the hospital was affected following the stir.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that the MBBS students of Rajshree Medical College have gone on strike after the medical college administration allegedly demanded Rs 3.5 lakh as an internship fee.

The medicos also claimed that the administration has imposed the fee on them and also warned them that they would not be allowed to start their internship unless they pay the fee. This has been three days since the medicos started their infinite strike.
Earlier, the students made a written complaint to the District Magistrate and demanded to stop the illegal securing of money in the name of fees. When there was no solution, all the students sat on an indefinite dharna on the college campus. The medicos are peacefully staging a sit-in on the campus while holding placards in their hands.
