Pune: Quack Doctor held for prescribing Allopathic Medicines

Pune: A person impersonating a doctor has been arrested by the Pune rural police after he was allegedly caught giving allopathic prescriptions to patients at his clinic in Narayangaon in Junnar taluka of Pune district, Maharashtra. 

The fraudster identified as Anupkumar Harideep Mujumdar was charged with fraud and violating the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act, 1961 by the district health authority. The complaint was filed against the accused by Dr Chaitali Ramesh Kangune of Varulwadi's primary health centre (PHC).

The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) gave directions to the health officials to conduct an inspection at the Narayangaon's medical facilities and identify any fraudulent doctors. Following that, the hospitals began verifying the credentials of the doctors working at their clinics and hospitals, reports the Punekar News. 

The clinic run by Majumdar was mostly closed every time the officials visited the place for inspection. However, on July 18, at about 12:45 pm, health officials found a line of patients waiting at the clinic, where the accused was busy examining a patient. 

The officials subsequently questioned him about these credentials and asked if he held a license from one of the four recognized councils. He denied having the license. The officials found allopathic medications, injections, and medical supplies at his clinic. 

He has been booked under sections 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and section 33 (2) (act in defiance of any of the terms of sub-section) of the MMP Act. 

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported a similar incident where a fake doctor along with five others has been arrested by the police while conducting a raid at a bogus medical clinic operating in North Guwahati. Police came to know about the clinic after one of the patients got treated at the clinic and started to suffer from serious health complications. Based on the tip-off, the police busted the clinic and arrested six accused in total including a nurse and other medical staff.
