The doctors of the Anaesthesia Department of the hospital are allegedly under the scanner in the incident. The complaint states that some anaesthetists of the Rajpura Civil Hospital are reportedly on a payroll of some of private hospitals in the city. A doctor of the hospital told the Tribune India, "These doctors have a tacit understanding with private health centres and hospitals of Rajpura where they extend their services during surgeries. They get payment on a surgery basis." The complaint further stated that some of these accused doctors are also referring the patients visiting the Civil Hospital to other private hospitals.
According to the officials of the Health Department, the committee's report would be sent to the senior officials following which the required action would be taken.
This is not the first time this has been reported, as reports of doctors indulging in private practice was reported from the same hospital last year as well. During October last year, two doctors were found doing private practice from their government accommodation within the hospital premises.
The Medical Dialogues had earlier reported about a similar story where a Kupwara-based doctor was suspended by the officials after his video went viral on social media where he was seen practicing at a private clinic at Babar Lane Kupwara in violation of his prescribed roaster at a government hospital. The officials had formed a four-member committee to conduct an investigation against the doctor who was seen doing private practice during duty hours.
