Chandigarh: Taking disciplinary action against four doctors who were allegedly making false claims about their educational qualifications and practising without valid registration, the Punjab Medical Council has removed their names from the Punjab Medical Register.

As per the latest media report by The Tribune, these doctors have been debarred from medical practice for periods ranging from one month to three years for acts of professional impropriety on their part.

The Medical Council has punished them under the provisions of the Punjab Medical Registration Act, 1916, and the Code of Medical Ethics Regulation, 2002.

According to the council, these doctors have been blamed for making fraudulent claims about their higher qualifications and specialisations, practicing without registration, and incorrect contents of medico-legal certificates.

Removing their names from the Register, the Council has specified that during the period of suspension, these concerned doctors will be prohibited from engaging in any form of medical or proxy practice within the State of Punjab.

Further, the State Medical Council has also stopped these doctors from using their names with any medical designation, issue prescriptions, or use any letterhead stamp of pad bearing their names or medical credentials.

Medical Dialogues earlier reported that back in 2023, the Punjab Medical Council had summoned altogether 14 doctors of the Civil Hospital Ludhiana in respect of alleged medical negligence during the treatment of an accident victim. Back then, the Council had taken action after receiving an inquiry report into the incident from the office of the Punjab Chief Secretary. All the doctors had been asked to appear before the inquiry committee along with all the relevant records of the case.
