Srinagar: Following the release of notifications for the Junior Resident posts at two government medical colleges, candidates who had applied to both Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri and Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua faced confusion and difficulty, as both institutions had scheduled their written examinations on the same date and time.

The clash resulted in aspirants raising concerns and demanding a solution. The All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) also stepped in, urging the government to resolve the issue. Originally, the exams at both institutions were scheduled for February 3 at around 11:00 AM.

Taking note of these concerns, Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri issued a revised notice postponing the Junior Resident examination to February 5, 2026, at around 12 noon at the Mehra Campus to prevent a clash with GMC Kathua.

Similarly, GMC Kathua also informed all concerned candidates that the written examination for the post of Junior Resident will be conducted on February 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM.

The overlapping exam schedule left many candidates worried, especially those who had applied to both institutions. They had expressed disappointment that the clash in dates and times had forced them to choose between the two exams despite being eligible for both.

The revised order comes a day after candidates highlighted the issue, and the matter was also taken up by AIMSA, formally bringing the matter to the notice of the authorities, seeking immediate rectification, as per Greater Kashmir

Previously, Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, President of All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA), who is also a former National Executive member of FAIMA, took to the social media platform 'X'  and raised the issue. He said that the overlapping JR exam dates of GMC Rajouri and GMC Kathua are causing hardship to aspirants.

In his post, he urged the Health Minister Sakeena Itoo to immediately intervene in the matter and resolve it at the earliest. He also pointed out that such incidents are concerning at a time when unemployment remains high in the Union Territory.
