Returning from duty, 26-year-old doctor killed in hit and run

Ludhiana: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a 26-year-old doctor working at a private hospital in Khanna after a speeding car hit her, throwing her into the air while she was returning home after a night duty. 

The deceased, identified as Lavnish Chauhan, died on the spot due to the severe impact, which caused fatal head injuries. According to the police, the speeding car hit her, throwing her into the air before she landed hard on the road.

The incident occurred while she was crossing the Ludhiana-Delhi national highway in Khanna, returning to her rented accommodation after completing her night shift at the hospital.

According to an eyewitness, who saw the incident unfold, Dr. Chauhan was trying to cross the highway towards Bhattian when she was hit severely by the car.

After hitting the doctor to death with his car, the driver abandoned the car on the road and fled the scene in fear. Following her death, police have registered a case against the unidentified driver, and an investigation is underway to trace him. 

Khanna City SHO inspector Vinod Kumar told The Tribune, "A case was registered against the unidentified driver on the charges of causing death due to negligence and rash driving. The errant driver had abandoned the vehicle on the road and fled the scene. Details of the car owner were procured to identify the driver."

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a 29-year-old physiotherapist posted at a private medical college hospital lost his life in a road accident after the car he was driving lost control and skidded on the rain-soaked road near Taretota in Nanthoor. The doctor was driving the car at high speed and due to the slippery road soaked with rain, the doctor lost control of his car, skidded, hit the divider and overturned two to three times.
