Kolkata: To verify the allegations of financial irregularities against the former principal of RG Kar Medical College Hospital, Sandip Ghosh during his tenure there, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), investigating this case recently conducted a search operation for 13 hours at Ghosh's residence and seized the documents recovered from the spot.

The investigation team of the agency along with central forces, reached Ghosh's residence at approximately 6 am on August 25. However, they were required to wait for nearly one and a half hours before he finally opened the doors. After continuing the search operation for 13 hours, the agency came out at nearly 8.50 pm, carrying piles of documents that they reportedly seized from the premises.

When asked about the details of the documents found at his residence, a CBI official while leaving Ghosh's residence told ABP "Bahut kuch hai (Quite a lot)." Following the statement, speculation arises that the CBI may have found concrete evidence concerning the case.

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is also entering the scene by filing an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) in this regard. ED, the investigation arm of the Union Ministry of Finance, will now probe the money laundering angle in the case.

According to the PTI report, on Sunday, the CBI launched simultaneous search operations on the premises of Ghosh, Vashisth and 13 others in and around Kolkata in connection with their probe into alleged financial irregularities in the medical establishment, officials said.

The anti-corruption unit of the CBI also searched the residences and offices of individuals involved in supplying materials for patient care and hospital management.

According to a complaint lodged by Akhtar Ali, former deputy superintendent of RGKMCH, Ghosh, during his tenure as the principal of the hospital, along with his associates, had issued tenders for the construction of food stalls, cafes, canteens, and urinals without the permission of the health department and the college council, news agency PTI reported.

Medical Dialogues had recently reported that the agency began interrogating former principal Sandip Ghosh and former medical superintendent and vice principal Sanjay Vashisth on Monday.

Ghosh, whose Beliaghata residence was searched by CBI officers on Sunday, appeared at the central agency’s office in Salt Lake on Monday morning with files and documents, an officer of the agency said.

Vashisth, whose house was also raided by the CBI officers, appeared before the central agency’s detectives at Nizam Palace, the officer said, adding that a forensic medicine department professor was also called for questioning at the same office.
