In protest against the alleged incident of workplace violence, senior resident doctors at the city's premier hospital went on a mass work boycott. They are demanding the immediate removal of the HOD and have stopped working in the CTVS operation theatres and ICU until action is taken.
Showing support to the alleged assaulted doctor, the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of Safdarjung Hospital have expressed deep concern and strong condemnation regarding the incident. Alleging that the CTVS Head assaulted the doctor, the association demanded immediate action against the concerned head.

In a letter to the Director of Safdarjung Hospital, the RDA stated that all senior and postgraduate resident doctors will collectively boycott CTVS, operation theatres, and ICU duties. They clarified that they will not return to work until their key demands are met.
Their demands include:
- Immediate removal of CTVS HoD from all active duties and suspension of surgical privileges until further action.
- Formation of an impartial Institutional Enquiry Committee to investigate the incident and take disciplinary action based on the findings.
- Mandatory psychiatric evaluation of Dr ***, citing his past behaviour and safety concerns raised by residents.
The association also warned that if their demands are not addressed, they will escalate the matter further to ensure justice, accountability, and a safe working environment for all residents.
"Should these demands remain unaddressed, we will be compelled to escalate the matter further in any appropriate form to ensure justice, workplace safety, and institutional accountability. We request your urgent intervention to resolve this matter as soon as possible and restore a safe working environment for all resident doctors," stated the letter. Similarly, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) have also expressed their solidarity with the resident doctor. Posting on its official 'X' handle, the association said, "A Senior Resident Doctor in Safdarjung Hospital was Physically Abused by the Head of Department of #CTVS(Cardio Thoracic Surgery) in Operation Theatre as per RDASJH. Somehow, he saved himself. We stand in solidarity with the victim. We Demand Strict Action Against HoD." Meanwhile, a doctor responded to FAIMA’s post with a clarification. He said the incident did not happen inside the Operation Theatre but in the CTVS ICU. According to him, the resident doctor had shown negligence while treating a child patient.
“The report should also mention the current condition of the child, who went into cardiac arrest because of the resident doctor’s negligence,” he said. He added that the heated argument that followed happened because the patient’s condition was extremely critical, and the situation could have been prevented. He stated that no act of physical assault has been proven so far, and this clarification should be included for fairness and transparency.
The doctor further claimed that none of the individuals who signed the RDA letter have visited or checked on the child, who is still fighting for life. He insisted that this fact must be mentioned to present a complete and fair picture of the situation.
