Fatehgarh Sahib: In a shocking incident, a young gynaecologist was found dead in her official government residence at the Civil Hospital complex in Fatehgarh Sahib, leaving the medical fraternity and local residents in deep shock.

The deceased doctor, hailing from Bathinda, had been posted at the Fatehgarh Sahib Civil Hospital for the past one and a half months. She had recently completed her MBBS and was working as a gynaecologist at the facility.

According to news reports, the doctor allegedly died by suicide after hanging herself in her government-allotted quarters. The incident came to light after authorities were alerted, following which local police rushed to the scene.

Speaking to Tribune India, Ashok Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Fatehgarh Sahib, confirmed the incident, stating that the doctor was found hanging in her quarters. He further informed that during the initial search of the premises, no suicide note was recovered, leaving the immediate motive for the extreme step unclear.

Police said that the hospital staff called the doctor repeatedly today, but after getting no response, an employee reached his residence, where he saw the doctor hanging from the noose and informed the hospital authorities, reports Punjab Tribune

Preliminary inquiries suggest that the doctor may have been under mental stress in recent days, though officials said the circumstances leading to her death will be determined after a detailed investigation.

The body has been taken into custody and shifted to the Civil Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, the doctor’s family in Bathinda has been informed about the incident.

Authorities stated that a detailed investigation is underway, and further action will be taken based on the autopsy report and statements from the family members.

The tragic incident has once again raised concerns about the mental well-being of young medical professionals.
