Patna: 18 year old NEET aspirant found dead in hostel, note mentions depression

Patna: In an unfortunate incident, an 18-year-old NEET aspirant allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at a hostel in Patna. A suicide note left behind by the student indicated that he was suffering from depression.
According to the police, a toxic chemical was found near the body, and the student was lying motionless on his bed when the room was opened. It is uncertain why the student took the extreme step, but police believe from the note that he may have taken his life after being unable to cope with depression.
The suicide note recovered from the spot was addressed to his parents, stating that he could not achieve what he wanted.
"He did not give any clear indication of why he took this extreme step," said S K Puri, SHO Jitendra Rana.

The incident took place on Tuesday in the S K Puri police station area, where the student from Muzaffarpur district had been staying for the past two years while attending coaching classes for medical entrance exams. Hostel residents told TOI that they heard him talking on the phone late into the night. However, he was not responding to calls or door knocks, following which his cousin, also a boarder at the hostel, along with friends and the warden, broke open the door and found him lying motionless on the bed.
It has been reported that the student’s roommate was not present at the time, as he had gone home for examinations. According to the hostel owner, he was last seen around 1 am when he was carrying water to his room.
Following this, the police were informed about the incident at around 9.30 am and immediately rushed to the spot.
Explaining the incident, Rana told TOI, "Body has been sent for post-mortem and crucial evidence, including the chemical, suicide note and his cellphone, have been seized from his room. From the suicide note, it appears that the boy was going through depression. He addressed the note to his parents, stating that he could not achieve what he wanted. He did not give any clear indication why he took this extreme step."
Police have informed the family and sealed the room for further investigation. The post-mortem report is awaited, and further action will be taken based on the findings.
