Stress due to work pressure allegedly drives Senior doctor to suicide

Jamui: In an unfortunate incident, a senior doctor serving at the Community Health Centre at Giddhaur in the Jamui district has allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling at his room in his official residence on Tuesday.
Police have also secured a suicide note from the room where the doctor stated that he was facing mental problems and was finding it difficult to serve his duties as he claimed to be under stress due to work pressure.
The deceased has been identified as a 55-year-old doctor who was also serving as the in-charge of the COVID Ward of the facility at Giddhaur. He was a native of Kharagpur in Munger and he had been serving in Giddhaur since 2015.
Elaborating on the incident, the driver of the deceased stated that like every other day, he was waiting for the arrival of the doctor outside his room. Even after waiting for long when he did not come out, the driver made repeated knocks on the door. When he still received no response from inside, he along with some other people broke into the room and found the doctor hanging from the ceiling, reports News 18.
The driver and some other family members rushed him to the Sadar Hospital immediately but he was declared brought dead. The sudden death of the doctor has brought grief to the bereaved family members as well as the medical community.
As per a report by the Hindustan Times, the suicide note secured by the police from his room stated, "After suffering from corona, I feel a mental imbalance, loss of memory and sleep. Due to this, I am unable to work properly." He was under stress due to work pressure and was also suffering from mental problems.
According to a recent media report by Hindustan Times, he was recently also given the additional duty of immunization officer of the district. Thus, he was responsible for the vaccination program in the whole district. His colleagues and some of the relatives have alleged that there was a lot of departmental and administrative pressure on him.
The in-charge officer of the district health centre and another medical officer also rushed to the hospital after getting the information of the shocking incident. Police are still investigating the case and are yet to comment on the whole incident.
Commenting on the allegations of administrative pressure on the doctor, the civil surgeon of the district Sadar Hospital, Dr Vinay Kumar Sharma told News 18 that he talked to the deceased in a video conferencing meeting on Monday evening but the deceased did not complain of any problem with the department or the administration. The civil surgeon has ruled out the existence of a departmental reason behind his suicide.
