Surat Gynaecologist Beaten Up after Receptionist Accuses Him of Harassment

Surat: In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old woman's family allegedly assaulted a gynaecologist after she accused him of harassment. The incident occurred at a diagnostic centre where the doctor works as a consultant and the woman is employed as a receptionist.
According to a complaint filed at the Kapodra police station, the woman has been working as a receptionist at the diagnostic centre for the past four months. The centre is owned by another doctor. The doctor who is a gynaecologist visits the centre to offer his services as a consultant. He owns a hospital in Sarthana.

Following this incident, the woman then called her brother, mother, and uncle to the hospital who arrived at the diagnostic centre to confront the doctor.
In response to the allegations, the doctor and the hospital owner alleged that the woman and her family were attempting to extort money by making these allegations. Enraged by the accusations, the woman's family members physically assaulted the doctor, leading to injuries that required medical attention.
The woman further alleged that this was not the first instance of misconduct by the doctor. She claimed that he had previously molested her on December 23 and on several other occasions.

Speaking to TOI, DCP (Zone 1) Alok Kumar said, "We have booked the doctor for outraging the modesty of a woman and passing sexually colored comments. We have started taking statements from witnesses. We are also checking CCTV footage. We will take further action based on corroborative evidence."
The doctor's injuries are being treated. "We are yet to take the statement of the doctor. We do not yet know if the accused wants to file a complaint against the woman's relatives for assault," Kumar said.
