Doctor, Pharmacist assaulted by 5 assailants at Odisha PHC
Jagatsinghpur: In yet another case of violence against medical professionals, an on-duty doctor and a pharmacist of a Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Deriki were allegedly brutally assaulted by five intoxicated men who had come to the facility seeking treatment. The attack resulted in injuries to both the doctor and the pharmacist.
Based on the doctor's complaint, the police have registered a case under relevant sections of BNS against the miscreants and an investigation has been launched. However, no arrests have been made so far.

As per a TNIE media report, the five miscreants arrived at the PHC under the influence of alcohol. The situation quickly escalated when the doctor began to inquire about their medical issues. Shortly, the men became angry and started abusing the doctor before assaulting him.
The pharmacist was also physically assaulted by the miscreants after attempting to intervene and stop the attack. When he stepped in to prevent further violence, the assailants turned on him and the doctor before fleeing the scene.
In response, the doctor filed a formal complaint at the Naugaon police station. In his statement, he described how the assailants entered the facility in a drunken state, causing a disturbance and attacking both him and the pharmacist.
Following the attack, the healthcare staff at the Deriki PHC felt threatened and refused to continue their work in fear of a lack of safety at the facility. They have demanded better adequate security and strict action against those responsible for the assault.
Naugaon sub-inspector Nilamani Nayak told TNIE, "A case has been registered in this connection. However, no arrests have been made so far. Further investigation is underway."
