Doctor beaten up by mob of 12 for referring patient to higher centre
Madhepura: A doctor at a private hospital in the Lalpatti area in Supaul district was severely injured after being allegedly assaulted by over 12 attendants of a 15-year-old girl over a referral to another facility due to her critical health condition.
The assault took place when the doctor decided to refer the patient to a higher facility so that she could get better treatment. However, this angered the attendants who refused to listen to the doctor and allegedly assaulted him.
Following the incident, the doctor had not filed any complaint against the assailants and the police confirmed that an investigation would only launch after a formal complaint.

The doctor identified as Dr B N Paswan is also a medical officer at Triveniganj sub-divisional hospital who attended patients at the private facility after his regular duty was over.
As per a TOI news report, the incident occurred on Saturday when more than 12 attendants brought the patient to the private hospital. Dr Paswan was working late that day. The patient was suffering from an acute headache. Dr Paswan checked her condition and advised the attendants to take her to the higher centre for treatment which later resulted in the assault of the doctor.
Following the attack, Dr Shrawn Kumar, a consultant at the private clinic, provided first aid to him and referred him to a higher centre for better treatment. Speaking on this, he said, "The injuries were serious and we felt it was necessary for him to receive better medical care."
Later, the police were informed about the situation. A team led by an additional SHO of Trivenigaj police station, Rahul Kumar, reached the spot and conducted a preliminary investigation. During the investigation, it was found that one of the assailants, Pramod Paswan, whose daughter was taken to the clinic for treatment had an old enmity with the doctor.
"Proper action will be taken against the assailants after receipt of the formal complaint," the SHO added.
