Raipur: In response to major laxity in duty observed by the state health department, the services of around 11 medical officers who showed negligence in work have been terminated by remaining absent for more than three years in Chhattisgarh.

It came to light that the doctors were neglecting their duties and remained absent for over three years. Moreover, no prior intimation was provided to the department head. These 11 medical officers continued to be on leave without sanctioning their leave days.

A proposal was made by the Director of Health Services to institute a departmental inquiry against a total of 24 medical officers who were unauthorizedly absent. On which the absence period of five medical officers who were unauthorizedly absent was declared as a non-working day, reports the Free Press Journal

At the same time, two medical officers have been given the last opportunity to clarify within 15 days.

Earlier in December 2022, these 13 doctors were given a chance to explain their leaves. However, no doctors bothered to appear before the concerned authority.

In response, the State Government decided to terminate the service against 11 absent medical officers for being absent for more than three years and conduct a departmental inquiry on those absent for less than three years and extend the period if they are on probation.

Along with this, a departmental inquiry will be conducted against two medical officers, one from Maternity and Child Hospital, Bemetara and the other from Community Health Center Kota who has been absent for less than three years. A letter has been sent to both of these medical officers to give their reply within 15 days.

On the other hand, a separate departmental order was issued by the department on last February 7, terminating the service of six medical officers and disposing of their absence period under Basic Rule 17 'A' and Rule 27 of the Pension Rules, 1976.
