West Bengal doctors stage stir over alleged registration irregularities
Kolkata: Days after the West Bengal Medical Council cancelled the registrations of five alleged fake doctors, a demonstration was held outside the office in Salt Lake on Tuesday over alleged irregularities in doctor registrations.
The protest came after a recent council notification cancelling the registrations of five alleged fake doctors against whom a complaint had been lodged with the Bidhannagar South police station.
According to the notification, two individuals were found to have the same registration number. The notification also named other accused in connection with similar irregularities, reports PTI.

The protesters, who were mainly doctors associated with the ruling BJP, alleged that the duplication of registration numbers raised questions over the functioning of the medical council, which was run by doctors linked to the previous TMC regime.
They also sought the resignation of West Bengal Medical Council president Dr Sudipta Roy and vice-president Dr Sushanta Roy, alleging that the council had failed to prevent the proliferation of "fake" doctors in the state.
The protesters brought two goats to the site and hung photographs of the present and former presidents of the council around their necks as part of the demonstration.
As part of the demonstration, the protesters later submitted a memorandum to the Health Minister Dr Sharadwat Mukherjee at Swasthya Bhavan.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that, after taking action against two doctors in South 24 Parganas who were practising medicine using fake certificates, the West Bengal Health Department has terminated their employment. The Government's action comes after an investigation was conducted into the allegations that these two had got registered in the State using fake certificates claiming to have been issued by the Bihar Council of Medical Registration. According to an ETV Bharat report, the office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) issued an order for the dismissal of the two doctors.
