Woman dies after C-section at allegedly unregistered Latur hospital, doctor booked

Latur: In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old woman died after undergoing a Caesarean section at an allegedly unregistered private hospital in Maharashtra's Latur district. Police have registered a case against the doctor, citing alleged violations related to the facility and the procedure.

According to news reports, the woman underwent C-section delivery on August 11, following which her condition reportedly deteriorated. She later died, police said.

During the preliminary investigation, authorities found that the hospital and its operation theatre were unregistered and operating illegally. The surgery was also reportedly performed in a building that did not comply with the prescribed requirements for operating a healthcare facility. 

Police further alleged that the doctor was employed in government service and was not authorised to perform surgeries at the private hospital. 

According to a PTI report, the facility also reportedly lacked adequately trained personnel to provide the patient with the required post-operative care. Investigators are examining whether the alleged absence of appropriate staff and other violations contributed to the deterioration in her condition.

The case was registered following a complaint filed by the district civil surgeon. Police have invoked Sections 105 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with relevant provisions of the Bombay Nursing Homes Registration Act.

Section 105 of the BNS deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, while Section 125 relates to acts that endanger human life or personal safety.

The police case was registered on Sunday based on the civil surgeon’s complaint. The investigation is examining the alleged illegal operation of the hospital, the doctor’s authorisation to conduct the surgery and the circumstances that preceded the woman’s death.

Police are continuing to investigate the case and gather evidence regarding the hospital’s registration status, the C-section and the post-operative treatment provided to the patient.
