Himachal Pradesh: 4 Govt Medical College Principals transferred

Shimla: The principals of four government medical colleges have been given a transfer order by the Himachal Pradesh government.  

Dr Surinder Singh, the principal of Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) and Hospital, Shimla, was transferred to lead the charges of Dr YS Parmar Medical College, Nahan. Dr Sita Thakur has been posted as the principal of the IGMC, reports the Tribune India

Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla Himachal Pradesh was established in 1966 and is affiliated with Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College was established in 2016 by the upgradation of Regional Hospital, District Sirmaur at Nahan. Dr. YSPGMC is affiliated with Atal Medical and Research University.

Further, the other two transfers are of Dr Ajay Sood who has been made principal of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Chamba, while Dr Ramesh Bharti has been made OSD to the Directorate of Medical Education and Research, Shimla. 

Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College Chamba was established in the year 2016 by up-gradation of Regional Hospital, District Chamba with admissions of 100 students in the first batch. Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College was earlier affiliated with Himachal Pradesh University but now it is affiliated with Atal Medical & Research University, Mandi.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported a similar transfer incident where the Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the transfer of the head of the anatomy department at the Government Medical College, Patiala till a further hearing, who was accused of beating up a first-year MBBS student. The doctor was transferred to the Medical College, Amritsar after the parent of a first-year MBBS student alleged that the doctor beat up his son. The doctor had earlier also served as a joint DRME and twice as DRME in the past.
