Andhra Pradesh to get 7 new ESI hospitals and 3 to get makeover
Vijayawada: The Union Ministry of Labor Shri Bhupender Yadav announced on Monday that the Centre has sanctioned seven new Employees' State Insurance (ESI) hospitals and three reconstructions of ESI hospitals in the state.
The construction of the new Visakhapatnam ESI hospital was entrusted to the Central public works department (CPWD) at a cost of Rs. 384.26 crore in February.
Yadav told TNIE, that these 7 ESI hospitals are at different stages, ranging from land allotment to construction.

Newsmeter Network reports that the Ministry had also sanctioned a cost of Rs. 73.68 crore for a new ESI hospital at Vizianagaram that has been entrusted to MECON. A new ESI Hospital at Kakinada has been entrusted to CPWD at a cost of Rs. 102.77 crore. An amount of Rs. 17.23 crore has been released.
"The other four newly-approved hospital projects at Guntur, Penukonda, and Sri City Nellore are at the land allotment stage. The project at Atchutapuram is at the land possession stage. The remaining three projects are at different stages of construction," said the Union Minister.
Minister of State for Labour and Employment Rameswar Teli told that the reconstruction of the ESI hospital in Rajamahendravaram has been entrusted to Central Public Works Department (CPWD) with a sanctioned cost of Rs 97.97 crore and an amount of Rs 10.90 crore has been released while replying to a question by BJP MP GVL Narasimha Rao.
Rs 21.79 crore was sanctioned in 2019 for the renovation work of the existing ESI hospital at Malkapuram in Visakhapatnam that has been entrusted to CPWD. An amount of Rs 19.16 crore has been released.
The reconstruction of the ESI hospital at Rajahmundry has been entrusted to CPWD at a cost of Rs. 97.97 crore. It was sanctioned on 19 August 2020. An amount of Rs. 10.90 crore has been released.
The ESI hospital in Vijayawada is undergoing demolition and reconstruction by the CPWD, and an estimate has not yet been received by the ministry.
While thanking the PM for sanctioning and allocating funds for 10 ESI hospitals in the state, Narasimha Rao said, "As Andhra Pradesh lacks adequate health infrastructure, these 10 ESI hospitals will greatly help the people of the state."
