Bihar plans AIIMS Patna expansion with 24 acres of land, 200 beds

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary visited the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna to review the institute's healthcare services, infrastructure and proposed expansion plans, assuring the state government's full support for its future development.

During the visit, the Chief Minister reviewed key patient care facilities, discussed infrastructure requirements and promised assistance for the availability of 24 acres of land for the expansion project, which is expected to significantly enhance the institute's treatment capacity.

Accompanied by Health Secretary Kumar Ravi, Choudhary inspected the Burns Centre, Outpatient Department (OPD), Inpatient Department (IPD), Department of Nuclear Medicine and other major healthcare units. He also interacted with doctors, healthcare workers, faculty members and administrative officials to assess patient services, departmental functioning and operational requirements.

The proposed expansion includes new clinical blocks, advanced treatment facilities and upgraded infrastructure for medical education and research. According to officials, the project is expected to add nearly 200 hospital beds to meet the increasing healthcare needs of Bihar and neighbouring states.   

According to a report by  TOI, Samrat assured the institute that the Bihar govt would extend all necessary cooperation to make 24 acres of land available for the expansion. The project includes new clinical blocks, advanced treatment facilities and upgraded infrastructure for medical education and research.

He also assured support for the construction of a four-lane road connecting AIIMS-Patna with Nathupur to improve access for patients and visitors. While inspecting the Burns Centre, he said the government would support the establishment of a skin storage facility to strengthen care for burn victims. He also directed officials to renovate a pond on the AIIMS campus and develop it as a tourist attraction.

The visit concluded with a review meeting on ongoing projects, infrastructure needs and future development plans. AIIMS-Patna Executive Director and CEO Prof. (Brig.) Dr. Raju Agarwal briefed the Chief Minister on the institute's achievements, expansion roadmap and measures being taken to improve patient care and healthcare infrastructure.
