AIIMS Patna to deploy 5 doctors to support Amarnath Yatra pilgrims

Patna: To support the health of pilgrims undertaking the Amarnath Yatra, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS Patna) will deploy a team of five doctors to provide healthcare services during the pilgrimage.
Executive Director of AIIMS Patna, Prof. (Brig.) Dr. Raju Agarwal said that the annual Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to commence on July 3. The Government of India has put in place an extensive healthcare support system comprising health camps, medical clinics, intensive care units (ICUs), emergency medical services, surgical and orthopaedic facilities and multiple oxygen centres along the pilgrimage route.
He said that as part of this nationwide healthcare initiative, AIIMS Patna will once again contribute its medical expertise by deputing a team of five doctors to provide healthcare services to pilgrims during the Yatra. The doctors will serve in three separate batches, with two doctors each in the first and second batches and one doctor in the third batch, news agency UNI reported.

According to Dr Agarwal, the first batch comprises Dr Kaushik Banerjee from the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (CTVS) and Dr. Vinay Kumar Singh from the Department of Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Professor and Head, Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (CTVS) and Faculty (Administration) has been made the Nodal Officer for coordinating AIIMS Patna's participation in the Amarnath Yatra medical mission.
The first batch will travel from Patna to Srinagar before proceeding to the Panchtarni Base Camp, one of the key medical support locations on the pilgrimage route. They will render their services from June 27 to July 19.
Dr. Agarwal appreciated the commitment of the doctors to serving pilgrims in challenging terrain and reaffirmed AIIMS Patna's dedication to contributing to national healthcare initiatives and humanitarian service.
Dr. Sanjeev Kumar added that the Government of India has adopted a "Zero Mortality" objective for the Amarnath yatra, with a strong focus on timely medical intervention and comprehensive healthcare support for pilgrims.
He added that AIIMS Patna is proud to contribute to this national service initiative and remains committed to ensuring quality medical care for devotees undertaking the sacred pilgrimage, reports UNI.
He said that, having actively supported the Amarnath yatra medical mission over the past two years, AIIMS Patna will be participating in the initiative for the third consecutive year in 2026, continuing its commitment to serving pilgrims through dedicated healthcare support during one of the country's most significant annual pilgrimages.
