Breach of Security: Drunk man Impersonating patient's kin enters Female Doctor's Hostel at Daga Hospital
Nagpur: In the wake of the RG Kar Medical College incident, recently a female resident doctor of state-run Daga Memorial Government Women's Hospital in congested Gandhibagh experienced a shocking incident after a 25-year-old intoxicated intruder entered her hostel room breaching security in broad daylight by posing as a patient's relative.
According to recent media reports, the intruder was caught in the act after the doctor raised an alarm by shouting when she found him in her hostel room, where he was trying to steal her valuables.
The incident reportedly took place around 2 p.m. when he posed as a relative of a patient to bypass the security at the hospital's main entrance. He managed to enter the facility, made his way to the second-floor hostel, and attempted to steal items from the doctor's room before being apprehended. The quick response from the staff of the civic garbage operator who was present at the time on the campus led to the capture of the drunken man.

A hospital official told TOI, "The security guard deployed at the resident's hostel had left the gate to manoeuvre the JCB and garbage van when the intruder managed to slip inside. Though the hospital has multi-layer security checks, the intruder gained entry at the main entrance posing as a relative of a patient in ward number 5, ahead of the hostel."
Resident doctors told the Daily, "Earlier too minor incidents of theft took place but all those attempts were made from outside. This is the first time a miscreant managed to reach the top floor and enter the room, bypassing the security guard at the gate. Earlier attempts were made to steal articles kept near the windows."
The incident has highlighted concerns over the safety of healthcare professionals on hospital campuses as doctors protested on Monday against the incident demanding increased security on the campus.
In response to the protest, a security review meeting was held with top officials led by Additional Civil Surgeon Dr Shamsun Khannum. In the meeting, the officials sacked the security guard for the lapse.
Dr Khannum said, "The security guard was sacked for the lapse while additional measures are being taken to prevent any repeat of such incidents. The hostel premises are fully secured. The doors have iron grills, a guard is posted round the clock at the hostel gate. CCTVs are in place while the premises is well-lit after sundown. The demands put up by resident doctors have been accepted. We assured them of their security."
She added, "The hospital administration requested the Nagpur police to increase the patrol to twice a day. The police patrol doesn't move inside the campus. We want them to make a round inside the campus twice a day. We have also requested them to set up a permanent police chowky here just like the ones at Mayo and GMCH."
