CM Sarma Reviews 300 Crore Project for Assam Medical College Hospital

Dibrugarh: In a high-level meeting Chaired on Sunday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the master plan for a major Rs 300 crore development project at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh. This ambitious initiative is set to reshape the institution by introducing modern facilities and a state-of-the-art residential colony to enhance the overall experience for students, faculty, and staff. 

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that his government would provide Rs 300 crore financial assistance to Assam Medical College (AMC) for its infrastructure development.

The review meeting was attended by several key officials including Dibrugarh MLA and state power minister Prasanta Phukan, Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Bikram Kairi, Superintendent of Police Rakesh Reddy, AMCH Principal and Chief Superintendent Dr. Sanjeeb Kakati, and senior members of the Public Works Department (PWD).

The Rs 300 crore project aims to replace the outdated residential facilities at AMCH with modern accommodations designed to meet the evolving needs of the institution. The plan envisions the construction of new residences for various categories of staff, including the principal, vice principal, senior and junior professors, as well as third and fourth-grade employees.

In addition, the project will feature new hostels for boys and girls, GNM quarters, and a convention center, among other essential facilities. The focus is on incorporating both basic and advanced amenities into the new structures to cater to the evolving needs of the institution.

Speaking to TOI, Sarma said, "Assam Medical College and Hospital is not just an institution, it is a legacy that has served the people of the northeast for decades. This Rs 300 crore project is a step towards modernizing its infrastructure and ensuring that it continues to provide world-class healthcare and education. We will ensure that the project is completed swiftly and efficiently."

During the review meeting, CM Sarma emphasized the importance of seamlessly integrating modern amenities into the new facilities. He mentioned that, as the premier medical institution in the northeast, AMCH deserves infrastructure that matches its historical importance. It was emphasized that the new residential colony and other facilities must be equipped with all modern amenities. This would not only enhance the living conditions of the staff and students but also attract top talent to the institution.

Dr. Sanjeeb Kakati, Principal of AMCH, expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the government's initiative. He acknowledged the significance of the development project and how it would positively impact the quality of life for staff and students.

According to TOI, "This project is a dream come true for all of us at AMCH. The new infrastructure will significantly improve the quality of life for our staff and students, enabling us to focus better on our primary goal of providing excellent healthcare and medical education," he said.
