Mumbai- A case of alleged medical negligence has come to light at a private hospital on Mohammed Ali Road, where a piece of surgical cotton gauze was reportedly left inside a woman's abdomen during a delivery. Subsequently, she had to undergo a second surgery.

According to reports, the woman, a resident of the Pydhonie area in South Mumbai, gave birth to a baby under a doctor's care on May 10. Later, on May 14, she was discharged from the hospital; however, as soon as she returned home, she began experiencing a fever and severe abdominal pain.

The family has alleged that the hospital staff attempted to cover up the mistake. The woman's husband, Shamshad Ali Syed, alleged that he was sent out to purchase an injection, after which the hospital administration urgently called him and informed him that his wife needed immediate surgery.

The husband further stated that he sought an explanation and medical reports from the doctors, but received no satisfactory response. He later obtained medical reports from another hospital and consulted a different doctor, who allegedly confirmed the presence of gauze inside his wife's abdomen.

When her condition deteriorated further, her family took her back to the hospital. However, the doctors there reportedly told them that experiencing such symptoms after delivery is normal and administered routine treatment.

As her pain intensified, the family sought further medical examination at another private hospital. Subsequently, she was advised to undergo a CT scan, which reportedly revealed that a piece of cotton (gauze) had been left inside his abdomen during the previous surgery, reports ETV Bharat.

After this, the family took her to the hospital, where she delivered the baby and was then readmitted.

The woman underwent a second surgery on Friday night, during which doctors successfully removed a large piece of cotton gauze from her abdomen. Her condition is now reported to be stable.

Upon learning of the alleged negligence, Shamshad Ali Syed contacted the Pydhonie Police and lodged a complaint. The police stated that legal action is being initiated against all individuals involved in the matter, and an investigation into the case is underway.
